We are seeking an experienced Development Manager to lead the backend engineering team
for our client. This is a mission-critical role where you will be responsible for the systems that power point granting, usage, and balance history for millions of users.
Note on Role Transition: While this position is designated as a Manager role, we believe in
ensuring success through deep understanding of our domain. You will join as a Senior Backend
Engineer for the first 6 months to master our architecture, team dynamics, and operational
standards. Upon mutual agreement and successful integration, you will transition into the
Development Manager role, taking full responsibility for the team of approximately 10 engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership: Transition from a hands-on technical lead to a manager of 10+
engineers. You will supervise technical quality, manage career development, and oversee task
execution.
System Architecture: Lead the evolution of our microservices architecture, ensuring high
performance, scalability, and resiliency.
Production Excellence: Oversee 24/7 production services. You will be responsible for on-call
handling, incident management, and ensuring zero-downtime operations.
Performance & Tuning: Proactively identify bottlenecks and lead application performance tuning
to ensure the platform handles massive scale efficiently.
Innovation: Champion AI initiatives to enhance development velocity and platform quality. Drive
the adoption of new technologies to solve backend challenges.
Stakeholder Alignment: Negotiate requirements and priorities with Product Managers and
SREs. Navigate Japanese business culture, interpreting implicit expectations to drive alignment
and project success.

Nice to Have
Event-Driven Systems: Hands-on experience designing/operating event-driven architectures
(e.g., Kafka).
Middleware Tuning: Hands-on experience in deep-level tuning for DBs, Message Queues, and
Kubernetes.
AI Integration: Hands-on experience building or deploying AI-integrated products.
Language: Business-level proficiency in Japanese.
Crisis Management: Experience in critical troubleshooting and executive-level reporting.

Mandatory
Backend Expertise: 7+ years of hands-on experience in backend development using Java or
Kotlin.
Microservices: 3+ years of hands-on experience in microservice development.
Architecture: 3+ years of experience in system architecture solutioning.
Management: 2+ years of experience managing teams of 5+ members (technical supervision,
career development, task management, cross-functional collaboration).
Production Management: 2+ years of experience managing 24/7 production services, including
on-call handling.
Performance: Proven track record of application performance tuning in high-traffic systems.
Database: 2+ years of experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB).
Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (k8s).
AI/Innovation: Experience leveraging AI tools to enhance development and driving new
technology initiatives.
Adaptability: Ability to rapidly onboard to new technologies.
Communication: Strong negotiation and stakeholder alignment skills.
Cultural Competence: Deep understanding of Japanese business communication nuances
(interpreting implicit expectations).
