Role & Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between Japan customer needs and technical solutions. You will engage directly with clients to understand their requirements, meticulously verify and test software using actual laboratory equipment, and take ownership of work estimation and project management. This role offers the unique opportunity to work closely with the R&D software team in America, contributing to code reviews and participating in training sessions, all while establishing and defining this new role within Japan.

Main tasks include

- Apply critical and logical thinking to analyze ambiguous requirements, break down complex problems, and make sound technical decisions.
- Prototype, design, implement, test, and maintain software for laboratory devices.
- Work hands-on with real hardware, supporting device control, debugging, and system integration.
- Collaborate with global R&D, architecture, and standards teams while independently owning deliverables.
- Proactively identify problems and drive solutions in a role with limited predefined structure.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong foundation in object-oriented programming and ability to quickly learn new languages and frameworks.
- Proven critical and logical thinking skills for complex technical challenges.
- Clear technical communication and effective collaboration in distributed teams.
- Fluent or above in Japanese
- Basic business-level proficiency or above in English.
- Previous experience with programming languages like Python, C#, C++, Delphi, WPF, or HTML is a plus.
- Experience in integrating software with physical hardware or laboratory instruments is a plus.

Hybrid work environment with the possibility of almost fully remote work as well.
