On behalf of one of USA's top insurance companies, Randstad is seeking a highly skilled a Senior Database Engineer with deep expertise in Azure-native database platforms to support data systems. This role focuses on designing, optimizing, and operating cloud database infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. The engineer will work closely with cloud architects, DevOps teams, and application owners in a regulated insurance environment.

This is a contract role with Randstad, based in Tokyo. It is a hybrid role with up to 4 days a week working from home option. The team is multicultural and speaks English mostly, and have a good work life balance. As this role is relatively urgent, we will prioritize candidates based in Japan with a valid working visa.

Key Responsibilities
 Design, implement, and manage Azure SQL and Azure Cosmos DB environments for enterprise
applications
 Optimize database performance, scalability, and availability in a cloud-first architecture
 Develop database standards, automation, and operational best practices
 Support database migrations from on-premise to Azure cloud
 Implement backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies
 Monitor database health, capacity, and performance proactively
 Collaborate with DevOps and application teams to improve deployment pipelines
 Ensure databases meet security, compliance, and audit requirements
 Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis
 Produce clear operational and architecture documentation

経験・スキル

Required Skills & Qualifications
 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
 Strong hands-on expertise in Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance
 Practical experience with Azure Cosmos DB (design, partitioning, scaling)
 Advanced SQL performance tuning and query optimization skills
 Experience with high availability, replication, and disaster recovery
 Familiarity with infrastructure automation and DevOps workflows
 Knowledge of Azure monitoring and performance tools
 Experience operating databases in regulated or high-security environments
 Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
● Business-level Japanese language skills are highly advantageous
