An American giant Fintech public-listed company is venturing into Japan to launch their smart payment terminal product. Randstad is supporting them to recruit their Japan entity’s founding members who could navigate together with them in this market entry venture.

The DeviceOS team builds and supports the platform software that powers the devices, ensuring a seamless experience for our merchants and end users. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our platform, driving innovation, and maintaining high-quality support.

This is a permanent position onsite in Tokyo.

Key Responsibilities:
• Execute black-box and automated testing for the Android OS and applications that run on their Point of Sale devices.
• Validate region-specific customizations and hardware integrations for POS devices.
• Perform testing for periodic application and OS software updates to ensure overall release quality.
• Create, maintain, and execute test plans and test cases.
• Provide clear updates on test progress, defects, and overall product quality to the QA team and cross-functional partners.
• Monitor test failures, report reproducible bugs, and analyze/triage automation results within the Continuous Integration system.
• Identify defects and verify product requirements using black-box testing techniques (e.g., test matrices, combination testing, risk analysis) and gray-box techniques (e.g., database querying, basic source review).
• Test HALs and hardware drivers that differ from stock Android.
• Perform testing for hardware tailored to the Japanese market, including language verification, localization validation, and regional compliance checks.

経験・スキル

What You Will Need To Have?
- 5+ years of software development experience with strengths in AOSP / Android Open Source Project
- MUST have 5+ years of experience in architecting and designing Android device platforms, including framework customization, system optimization, and hardware integration.
- Proficiency in at least two major AOSP programming languages (Java, C, C++, Kotlin).
- 3+ years of experience with bootloader development and customization.
- 3+ years of experience with Linux kernel development and customization.
- Experience with Git, Gerrit, or similar revision control tools.
- Strong understanding of security protocols, encryption, PKI, and certificate management.

What Would Be Great To Have?
- Experience with Android HAL development, Project Treble, Linux Kernel for Android, or TrustZone is a plus.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
- Japanese language skills
